The Children of Ether is about a group of teenagers (15-18) who attend Ethamere Academy, a school where children are taught to fight with both magic and weaponry, such as swords and bows. Everyone's magical talent is different, and they're taught based on how adept they are with their magic. However, some students have abilities that are a little more advanced. These abilities, called "Stolen Powers" by the Bluebloods, vary from person to person, and a select few develop them. These powers include anywhere from enhanced mobility to being able to break into another person's mind and control them. Nevertheless, King Vivian Ragnar (III) is horrifically paranoid that these "Upstarts" will overthrow him and has ordered their immediate execution, as well as the execution of anyone found (or assumed) to be helping or hiding those with Stolen Powers.
Obviously, these students aren't going to just sit around and wait patiently for the Seekers to find them, some hide their powers when they develop and try to live normally, some go into hiding, avoiding contact with anyone and anything, while others fight back. One rebellion group, comprised of five of the aforementioned teenagers, is discovered and forced to flee.
There is a name for these people, those "touched by the Goddess" or, "claimed by the Devil"
This group gave them that name. "The Children of Ether"
