This short story was written as a tenth grade project on political motive. The assignment asked students to relate a current (2016-17) political matter and relate it to a historical event, photograph, or piece of literature. This piece in particular focuses on the 1960's Detroit riots and racism which still exists today.

*SHORT STORY* *ROMANTIC DRAMA* *WARNING: - Language - Violence - Racial Tension/Discrimination *2021-2021 🎥 I strolled down the city streets of the big apple itself: New York City. I come from a small town in Nebraska, and being in a big city like this gives me this level of confidence. Like I belong here. This is where I am supposed to be. My trench coat flapped around my legs as the wind picked up and the heels of my shiny black dress shoes snapping on the sidewalk. I was surrounded by other business/working men and women. Once I turned the corner of a tall and wide building. The sun decided to finally show its face today. That's when I saw her. Her large black ringlets became blown by the breeze and her long skirt rippled against her shapely legs. The dirty apron she wore cinched her womanly waist. The sun rays made her skin glow like the angel she appeared to be. I couldn't help but grin like a fool. But I didn't care. All I knew was that I should like to go and talk to her. Background: In 2014, I completed my first National Novel Writing Month challenge--in November, I wrote a novel with 50,000 words. I published the book, but never promoted it. No one wants to pay for something with no idea what they're going to get. So I'm going to post preview chapters. All my books are available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. What's this book about? When I first committed to writing a novel, I planned on doing one of my fantasy projects. But the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the resulting explosion of racial tensions dominated the news. What I saw online frustrated me. I knew that there was more to the story than any one side would likely present. Such complex issues aren't answered by sound bites and 140-character policy statements. I read up on aspects of culture I had no exposure to. I sought perspectives that wouldn't appear on my Facebook feed or regular web browsing. And I devoured some great books by Malcolm Gladwell that address human nature from an analytical angle using racial tensions and the civil rights movement as primary examples.
