There is a terrible evil known as the beast that threatens magic in the universe. It is up to a group of students at Brakebills University to destroy this monster.

Quentin Coldwater and his friends have trained for this encounter with the beast forty times, and never prevails. They are given the chance of a do over with a magical pocket watch owned by Jane Chatwin. Each time Jane resets time she changes something that could possibly help these students defeat this threat.

You will learn of the first battle with the beast. You will see how Jane Chatwin discovers how Quentin is destined to kill the beast. You will be left wondering what she needs to change in order to have triumph, and reclaim Fillory.
