We are the defenders of the mysteries of the mountain. Our bodies are the fertile earth; our breath the shifting cloud... 12-year-old Annie wakes up to discover she has achieved her first communion with The Void. This event represents a coming-of-age for the young women of Serenidad, an eco-reserve hidden away on a mountainside in Peru. As Annie adapts to her new life as a spaewife, she finds herself taken under the wing of the inscrutable but enigmatic Mister Felix, the founder and director of Serenidad; a man supposedly reborn with an incredible responsibility: to prepare Mankind for The Time of the Waste and the eventual ascension to Lupus Four. Mister Felix informs Annie that she is a very special girl. A leader. But when Annie is thrown into a daring adventure down the mountain, where she must avoid drug traffickers, police and even her fellow Serenidadians, her loyalty to the community is tested to its breaking point. Annie is forced to make a final, impossible decision between a life of magic and mystery on the mountain and a new life in opposition to everything she has been brought up to believe...
