Kiran Ahmed used to live in Islamabad, the bustling and modern capital of Pakistan. Shortly after their marriage, Sikandar dies of natural causes in his sleep. Kiran travels to her husband's village for the funeral, and stays there for a few months. Kiran can't wait to go back to Islamabad since the villagers are suspicious and blame Kiran for her husband's sudden death. But when Kiran's young cousin, Layla, confides in Kiran about her desire to go to college, Kiran decides to stay and help Layla achieve her dreams against Layla's parents' wishes. Kiran finds newfound hope and renowned self-worth when helping Layla, but she soon realizes that rebelling against old-age customs and traditions have dire consequences.
