"Did you know I haven't been up here for months now," Grayson started off deep in thought, staring at the tops of the trees around us. I looked up, confused. "I don't really know why I came up here today either. I just had this feeling."
"What are you trying to say?" I whispered. He was looking at me like he had just had a religious revelation and was expecting me to have experienced it alongside him, but I had completely missed the broadcast.
"I think there was a reason I was up on this roof today, now, with you." He said seriously while I stared incredulously.
"What reason?" I whispered as a stray tear flowed down my face. "To 'save me'?" I laughed sarcastically. "What if there's nothing left to save Grayson?"
"No, I don't believe that." Grayson shook his head surely, looking me square in the eye. "Rain, I will not let this happen. Let me get to know you, please," He grabbed my hand and held it tight against his chest.
I looked down at our linked hands and took a step back, pulling my hand free and letting the connection break.
"There's not much point," I muttered, "there's really nothing to know."
I turned and cowardly ran away, leaving Grayson standing alone, on the roof of the old gymnasium.
