Many words fit eighteen-year-old Alex Lark, but one word in specific suits him: Stress. Between his parents' pressure, his coach's insistence, his sister's troubles, and school, Alex feels about ready to snap. So when he starts to hear a voice inside of his head, that's what he thinks is happening.
However, he soon realizes that the voice isn't just a voice. The voice is a person, and her name is Rebecca. And she's from the past.
As the two struggle to understand their strange form of telepathy, a tale of impossible circumstances and misfortunes comes about, causing Alex to find a sudden interest in his heritage, and causing Rebecca to find hope and courage despite her life as a slave during the Civil War. Together, the two of them keep each other sane.
But nothing can last forever...and one of them is running out of time.

Have you ever liked some guy that is popular, attractive and yet annoying, rude, mean at the same time? I'm sure nearly every girl has. Mikasa your typical girl who likes this really hot guy in her class but doesn't have the confidence to confess to him. Typical, isn't it? But don't think that they'll end up falling in love, that's too cliche. Instead it's going to be a whole twist and turn of events for this girl when she meets a boy called Alex whom she 'befriends.' Alex is the whole opposite of who Mikasa likes. Although, she becomes quite close to him, telling him her crush and him encouraging her and helping her out. Will spending time together bring them closer than just friends? A story that is nothing more closer to reality.
