16 year old Elena Press leads an average life in the normal world, but her love for books is beyond average. She recently received a book that she had been wanting for weeks. When she starts reading, she places herself in place of the main character who goes on adventures and is put in life threatening situations. She learns the secrets of Murkwell highschool, uncovers the disturbing truth about Jace Randall and his family - town legends, and learns all she needs to know about dragons, which were believed to be extinct since 1917 - one hundred years ago, until they start showing up out of nowhere! "Nice to meet you Jace, I'm Elena." Jace has always lived here and his parents have too. His great grandfather supposedly help fight off the dragons - which are believed to be extinct since 1917 - one hundred years ago. His family are legends in this town but at home they aren't all that great. "What's that room?" I point to a black door that he just walked past and didn't say anything about. "It's nothing, confidential." "Do you know what's in there?" "Yeah, but I'd be killed if I told anyone."

~"You don't- you don't need me." I stared in shock. This was the first shred of emotion he'd shown since he started avoiding me, and I had no idea how to respond. What was I supposed to say to something like that? So I let myself be honest, and I told him exactly how I felt. "But I do." I almost choked on my words. "I do need you. I can't talk to anybody else. I can't eat. I can't sleep. And I know you know what that's like."~ Liliana is now an orphan. Just 17 years old, she lost her parents in a boating accident and now she must live with her best friend, her best friend's parents and her best friend's brother, Joseph. She struggles through her grief as well as dealing with the mysterious but obnoxious Joseph, and it soon comes to light that he isn't the only one around her keeping secrets. Living under the same roof, tensions arise, and Liliana begins to discover that a perfect family may not be so perfect after all."
