His eyes lit a shimmering green, seeming to drain the color from the grey, dead grass beneath his feet.
The flowers and bushes around where he stood fell to ash, as the body in front of him crumpled to its knees with a thud.
The glass ball floating above his palms ebbed like the calmest of waves, a warm ember like light fluctuating in the darkness of the gardens.
It was then Penelope noticed the mangled mouth of the glowing silhouette on its knees, a petrified expression on a face that horrified her.
His head turned when he heard the twig snap from beneath her feet, not realizing that she was being slowly pulled in. She felt the connection snap from the anchor of her soul as the light dimmed, before being completely extinguished.
The next voice she heard was the voice of a man who was about to pull her out of her ordinary life.
"Well, hello. I'm Detective Quinton, I'm not quite sure what you saw but..."
Penelope stared behind him as the 'things' body disintegrated and was swept away with the wind.
