Cora Lombardi is ten years old and lives in 1577 Venice, Italy. A bout of the Bubonic plague ravages the city and hysteria is common in the streets. Anyone who shows even the slightest symptom is dragged off by the Plague Doctors to the island of Poveglia to die and then be burned.

While in the markets Cora sneezes, catching the attention of all those that surround her. Kidnapped from her home in the dead of the night when a doctor is informed she is taken to Poveglia, a place were death is a constant companion. 

She now fights for freedom as no further symptoms form and many of those around her die a slow and painful death. 

Will she escape and see her family again? Or will she be just another charred skeleton in the plague fields of Poveglia?All Rights Reserved

First started in 2015, this story is at 50k+ words, but was removed when a plotting hiccup was encountered. I now intend to split it into three parts, and this is the complete Part 1. It was mutated by rats, taken by mosquitos, who then gave it to humans, who started giving it to each other. Not one person has ever survived the disease - well as far as records go. Phoebe Johnson lives in Northern New Hampshire, dangerously close to Canada where the disease is closing in on the United States. The people around her are frightened, knowing they are all going to die once RD15 reaches the U.S. Except, as always, the United States of America decides to take matters into their own hands and leaves Phoebe in even greater peril than before.
