A girl's father dies and she mourns for him. When her mother starts dating again, the man clearly isn't human, but only she can see his face. She tries to kill him and is sent to an asylum. There she sees a man who looks just like her father. He has been resurrected by an angel to fight demons and has been adopted into a family of hunters. Adela is adopted by them too, but her mother's ex-boyfriend is not done with her yet. 

Adela learns to fight monsters and at the same time, deal with loss and pain. Her biggest trial comes when a creature kidnaps her and she has to find out why he let her go.
