The Antarctic Treaty was a treaty signed by the United States President on December 1, 1959. It proclaimed that twelve nations were to claim slices of Antarctica. It said it would be used for peaceful and science purposes only. And it had three basic rules: No military, no mining, and no nuclear exploding.
