Their Dad was almost always gone and if he was there, there was yelling and a lot of getting punched. In school Dean acted the bad boy but when he was alone his world broke together. He was soft and hurt. Even though he was Sam's protector. Never would he ever let anything happen to Sammy. He took blame for stuff Sammy did just to keep him safe. Safe from their Dad. When Dean begins to date a guy to get over Cas he didn't know how close this guy was to Cas. And Cas struggles when he was beginning to doubt his sexuality.
