For centuries, the world has been controlled by the markings that show up on a person's body on their eighteenth birthday. Their soulmate has a replica of this 'tattoo', giving them the name of 'soulmate tattoos'. Many rules and boundaries follow the gaining of these markings. 
What happens when you don't receive one? What fate follows the poor soul with the unknown in front of them? 
Adelaide never received her soulmate tattoo, and because of this, she has spiralled - mentally and physically. Once her best friend bails on her, again, she snaps and peculiar things start to happen around the cafe. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
