Roisin lives in a world where all of humanity lives in caverns carved into the earth by millions of years of erosion. Life for her is a battle between old humans--those who didn't evolve to survive in the cave--and neohumans, like herself, who have developed new abilities to cope with the dangerous environment of the cave. The neohumans are rejected from old human settlements, forced to survive on their own in the caves with only their wits and their strength to go on.
