Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? a story about an LGBTQ friend group. the names are, Ash, Soph, Dex/Dexter, Venti, Ty, Max, integrity and Blu. Everyone was friends with Ash and Ash brought everyone together which caused the friend group to form, Soph is the "mom friend" of the group, Blu hits on and dates everyone, Dex basically just spoils everyone, Ty starts all the drama, Max is the one who solve problems, integrity keeps everyone in their place, Venti is just insane and doesn't care. Two people fall in love in unlikely circumstances. They have a lot of psychological issues and mistrusts in the order of things to prevent them from finding themselves and each other. I am a reader of crime novels and hard science fiction almost exclusively, and yet this story, which I have been writing for a long time, is a love story, I can't explain it even to myself. The characters will have to work through hardship and evolve to be able to surrender to the magical things around them and the flow of the universe and the love of other people. This story still is a work in progress, it has holes and it is to be continued
