"Your stupid little chant isn't going to help you!" The Alpha said, taunting me.

"Wait! I have a proposition for you! I think you'll like it." I said, before he could get his claws out.

"What sort of proposition?" He asked, a curious look in his eyes. My wicked smile arrived and I could feel my eyes changing to bright blue.

"You answer one of my riddles. If you get it right, you can do whatever you want to me." I pulled out my beads and began to play with them.

"And if I get it wrong?" He asked, tapping his fingers.

"The usual deal. I kill you."

Emily Patton is a supernatural, but not just any supernatural. She was designed to protect the Alpha. Her kind was thought to be extinct. Because after all, she's not just any supernatural. She's a Sphinx.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, a Sphinx was a man, viewed as benevolent, but having a ferocious strength similar to the malevolent Greek version and thought of as guardians often flanking the entrances to temples. Whereas in Greek tradition, it was Female, with the head of a human, the haunches of a lion, and sometimes the wings of a bird. It was shown as treacherous and merciless. Those who cannot answer its riddle suffer an awful fate, as they are killed and eaten by this monster. Only a female with grey eyes, with both Greek and Egyptian blood can become a Sphinx, and only if they are gifted the power by another Sphinx, one who's times has passed.

The Greek Sphinx was real, however, they were quite different to how people thought they were. A Sphinx was a beautiful woman, who had a felines tail and ears, and an eagle's wings. As time went on, they became less vicious, but still killed mercilessly, and they were still protectors, they simply became protectors of Werewolves, instead of temples and cities. This is what a Sphinx was born to do.
