Meet Lilith, a girl who has never known safety. Though she may appear out of harm's way to others, she has never been at ease. Why? Her parents consider it an anxiety disorder, and Lilith bought into it for a while. Yet, there was something that didn't fit. Like a puzzle piece that is slightly too big for the final slot, to complete the picture. Something felt bigger, darker then what she was meant to believe. Was it all in her head? Or was it something sinister lurking over her? The last thing Lilith saw were Eyes Glowing Red.

Alyssa has forgotten her brush with Death, but David's words have stayed with her: prepare. For what? She doesn't know. For a year, she's trained and become an almost undefeated boxer, putting all of her grief for the boy she loved and lost into being the best fighter. She's fast, strong, fearless. Now strange things have started happening, and she thinks she's losing her mind. How is she supposed to fight against what she can't see? Her mother's mind is clouded with a darkness no medicine can fix, and an ancient shadow circles the town, and Alyssa knows it's somehow related to her. Gifted in ways she doesn't understand, she's thrust into a triangle of devotion and danger-an angelic protector who refuses to leave her alone, a boy whose hands have held hers through the nights, and a darkness that wants only to make her surrender. In a race that runs as fast as her fists, Alyssa must choose who to trust and how much of herself to give-because the only way to stop a thing that feeds on light may be to become what it fears most. Will she save her mother and keep her humanity, or the secrets hasn't discovered cost her everything?
