We continued to stare at each other and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise when his eyes flickered down to my lips. It's been so long since I'd kissed his lips and I desperately wanted to feel their warmth on mine. He started leaning in closer but I remained frozen, butterflies were erupting in my stomach and my body was tingling all over. He paused right near my lips and I could feel his shaky breath on my cheek. He went to lean in the last few centimetres so our lips could connect, but I turned my head at the last minute and squeezed my eyes shut. I watched him as he did the same and sat up again, leaning on his arms. "I'm so sorry, Ash. I really want to, I'm just not ready." I whispered, focusing my attention on the horizon. "I get it. It's ok. It's not like it's gonna stop me from trying." He offered me a small smile and continued to watch the others as they came closer and closer to our spot on the sand.
