The 130th Hunger Games
Far into the future of humankind, there existed a country named Panem, which occupied what was once North America. It consisted of thirteen districts and one cruel, powerful Capitol that ruled them. But after the rebellion of Katniss Everdeen, Panem became a scattered country of chaos and, after several years of struggling and failing to found a new government, wore away into extinction. One hundred years later, Panem rose up out of the ashes and conquered all of Europe, establishing their own land there and naming themselves New Panem. To honor the ways of their original country, New Panem brought back the Hunger Games and started where they had left off—the 76th Hunger Games. About 50 years later, New Panem is thriving. In District 4, 12-year-old Sandi Coin (a descendant of President Coin) is living the good life—until her first reaping. When Sandi gets chosen to participate in the 130th Hunger Games, she knows her life is going to turn upside-down—and come to its end. Since she could walk, her mother, Nadia Goldenrod and winner of the 25th Hunger Games, trained her mentally and physically. "If you can't beat them physically, then use your damn brain." Over and over again that was repeated. She won her Games with intelligence and strength that she thought no sixteen year old should have. She shouldn't have won, that was for sure. In a fit of rage and rebellion, Morrigan made a statement that was seen across all of Panem. Because of her stunt, she was hated by President Snow so he used her body to please. But a boy made that worth it. Knowing she would see him every year for every Hunger Games made things slightly better. Slightly. But it was better than nothing.
