Kara Danvers wasn't a reporter. She was Cat Grants assistant at CatCo. Her cousin, Clark Kent (Kal-el), helped Kara rescue the Venture, to then be told Lena Luthor was not on it. Clark being sent to Lena's office to interview her brought Kara along.
