The day was February 14th. The time was 3:45 in the afternoon. The girl was Gia Jennings. The boy was Beck Turrent. The moment was supposed to be harmless, forgotten, and left in the the past. But it wasn't.

Gia Jennings never had a boyfriend, not counting the flimsy ones in middle school. It wasn't that she wasn't wanted, she was. It was that she didn't want to go on a date, she didn't want to talk to her date, she didn't want to look at her date, she couldn't.
So you can guess how flustered she was when her best friend gave her a Valentine's Day dare. What was it? Ask any boy on a date that exact day. He didn't have to say yes but he did have to realize he was being asked out.
Beck Turrent wasn't supposed to say yes. In fact, had it been any other day he wouldn't have. He's sworn off dating ever since Sophomore year in high school. He doesn't talk to any girl if they make an advance towards him.
But you see, his best friend also gave him a Valentine's Day dare. What was his? He has to say yes to anyone, and I mean anyone, who asks him out.
So there those two were, at the local mall on February 14th at 3:45 in the afternoon. Roaming, waiting until they decided to go through with their Valentine's Day dares.
