Caden Blake lost her mom a year ago. She moved out, unable to stand the constant downgrading from her dad and new step-mom, who happens to have a daughter who is the stereotypical girl we all hate at one point in our lives. Plus, her only escapes were books and fighting, along with joining the Air Force to try and get her little sister out of her old house. 

James Andreas has a stutter, which makes school hard for him. 


"What's your name?" I ask. "J-James."  I smile. "I'm Caden Blake." I stick my hand out like the awkward person I am. He shakes it lightly. "Have you read the Infernal Devices?" I ask. He nods, smiling shyly. "Who was your favorite character?" "W-will." I giggle at that. "Yeah. He's cheeky. I liked Jem. Really nice though he went through a ton."
