Since they'd paid for two months vacation for their honeymoon they continued to travel around knowing this wonderful news. But all happy things come to an end. Melanie and her dear husband happen upon the Hood and his goons up to no good. Seeing that her dear husband was a brilliant engineer, he kidnapped them and took them away where he began his plans to brainwash her husband turning him into the Mechanic. It succeeds and he orders the Mechanic to make a machine that will make Melanie forget her husband. Unable to stop himself, he does and erases Melanie's memory of him completely. After her memory is wiped, Melanie is saved by Jeff Tracy and brought to Tracy Island as she was extremely malnourished even pregnant and because Brains knows her by reputation. They nurse her back to health and months later, Melanie gives birth to the very healthy Tracie Orenburg. Years later, Jeff vanished and the Hood returns bringing back the anger Melanie had for the Hood being responsible for her not remembering herself or the one she loves. Upon capturing the Hood, he refuses to give any information regarding Melanie's memory. That's where the story, truly begins.
