Nina Thomas is plain, intelligent, and clumsy aspiring author from Ohio who moved to new york to get a book deal. After being declined from a publisher, she believes her life is at a standstill until she begins to fall for Jack Green, a tall, handsome bartender with a passion for reading and taking care of women. Nina takes disliking to Jack and his nasty player ways he seemed to learn during his years in New York. However, when Elliot, her neighbor who is also an addict tries to badmouth Nina, Jack springs to the rescue. Nina begins to notices that Jack is actually rather sympathetic at heart, despite trying to sleep with her after only a few days of knowing her. But as Nina sees it, the pressures of Jack's job as a Bartender leave him seemingly blind to Nina's affections and Nina takes up kick-boxing to try and distract herself. It's only when handsome, professional football player and Ninas only crush, Peyton Buchanan, threatens to come between them that Jack has to act fast.
