My Last Breath (Book one of The Portal Series)
BOOK ONE: Having enough courage to run through the woods and away from the people who convinced me they were saving me was not how I believed I'd spend my day. Yet, there I went escaping from the only place I knew existed in the world. Being held captive was too much for me, especially when these people wouldn't tell me who they were or even who I was. The first moment in my life I recall very clearly. I awoke in a dark room, with recollection of everything that happened in the world except for one thing. I had no memory of myself existing, I didn't know where I was or why these men kept me from leaving. Days after I first woke I asked plenty of questions, and yet none of them were answered. The only thing I learned was that I was not allowed outside because the woods heald the most powerful magic on the planet, the most dangerous magic. It was more than just bad men and curiosity about the forest that got me to leave, it was a pull towards something; towards magic. Once I was in the forest turning back was never an option, so I put it in my head that I'd keep walking until I found a civilization or a nice paved road that would lead to safety. But that never happened because the forest has a force living through it. Believing that the forest held something strange was the easy part but experiencing it myself was something totally different. I didn't expect anything normal but I didn't expect to be completly engulfed into the forest. I was led by an unknown presence that made me truly believe it was a living being, and in fact it is. I was innocent then, but now I know that anything can be hidden under a small platform in the woods with a secret bigger than the world itself. Olive the Other Werewolves
"Shift." His voice hit me like a serrated blade as he stepped out of the crude semicircle of hardened wolves that had formed around me. I pushed myself off of the cold floor for what felt like the thousandth time that day, wiping the small trail of blood coming off of my lip and down my chin. "I won't ask you again." My limbs felt like lead, these wolves had been at me for hours trying to get me to shift into my wolf, unbeknown to them was that their efforts would forever be futile considering the fact my wolf wouldn't make an appearance for me even when I begged. I seriously doubted she would suddenly pop up as a result of their abusive tactics. Instead of explaining my circumstances, driven by a bizarre combination of adrenaline and fatigue, I leaned back on my heels and sent the largest loogie I'd ever conjured flying over and landing squarely between the eyes of the man before me. oOoOoOoOoOo As a late bloomer who was incapable of shifting yet, let alone making any contact with her wolf, Olive Ludovic's life was not off to the best start. Growing up, constantly being tormented and taunted by those around her forced Olive to grow a tough skin and work even harder, despite the fact she was without her wolf. When her home is taken over by a dark pack, life seems to only get worse for Olive as it is quickly discovered that her mate is none other than Matteo, the Alpha of the very pack that was terrorizing her people. I ran, and I ran, and I ran, trying to get as far away from the mansion as possible. I was too weak to shift, but my determination kept me running. The house disappeared from my line of vision, and I was soon surrounded by greens. I didn't know where I was going, and at this moment, I didn't care. I was officially a fugitive. have you ever wondered whats the view beyond the lenses? although im singing my heart out to someone who could save me from myself, i find it rather disheartening. i could only see the admiration, the thrill in the eyes of those who heard me. i could only see the leers, the jealousy and the pretentious facade of the people around me due to what i have. that one thing that i could only hope for may never be in existence. how did i ever make it this far when everyone around me only has been driven by what i rake due to hard work and talent? how did i ever survive knowing that im alone in this bubble all my life? my parents barely recognize my existence except during payday. my sister rode on to the fame i accumulated through the years ive been slaving away for and became a hot sensation over night without much of a hassle. can i let myself be miserable through the smiles i gave everyday since i was 16 in front of countless cameras around me? no, they wont allow it. im very much an actor in this aspect and although only a glimmer, im proud of it. i endured. until when? .... I looked at the men intensely. He was much taller than me and looked much older than me too, around 20-24 years old. He had black hair and look like a fucking Greek god I must say. i stare at him, taking in his every beautiful features. "Damn" I found myself thinking. He was not less than a Greek God. He was muscular, and from the shirt he put, you could see his 6 pack and toned abs. His face was a beauty. I could stare at him and never get bored. "What the hell?" I thought. Why was I drooling over a guy like that? I was so busy thinking about the sexy stranger that I didn't notice, he was so closer to me. I look at him and suddenly out of the blue, he put his right hand on my cheek. Like he was admiring me, making sure I was no illusion. At that very moment, I felt sparks from the contact of our skin in my body and everything became a blur to me. Only one word could be form in my mouth. The famous word "mate".
