The world's population had been separated because of the Cost War, eliminating millions of people at a time and polluting the Earth's sky and land, supposedly, all of the world's population lives underground in concrete shelters, they are known as the Undergrowers. While a fifth was sent to a planet recently discovered in the Solar System: Scaunt, a distant relative to the planet Mars. And no one is sure if a single person had survived or not. There are tales of people called the Outviewers, they roam the land up above, living off of what little is left, but no one considers they are actually real. The Undergrowers have found useful methods to survive from below, like inventing a machine that copied the water cycle, producing water. Generators, creating reliable electricity, only for the use of the Undergrowers. And growing food in crop houses. Only, oxygen and space is limited.
Borealis Row, a headstrong Undergrower without a destiny. Ginger, an introvert Outviewer with no home. Cane, a demoralized Undergrower with no family. They all have one thing in common, a vital piece missing from each of their lives, and in search for that one piece could cause each of them to realize one thing: that what they had first thought would weaken them, produces the strength within the burning flame.
Until there is an immense earthquake that the Undergrowers believe is a bombing. Soldiers evacuate the residents causing Borealis and Cane discover a route onto the land above.
