Olivia Riebow’s grown up in a world we couldn’t begin to imagine—post-apocalyptic, just fifty years after a nuclear war that nearly destroyed and decimated two-thirds of the world and its population. The only tie she has to the Old World (that’s what everyone calls the world before the Nuclear War) is the eighty year old man who lives her step-father’s hotel—and she thinks that what he tells her of the Old World doesn’t sound that different than the world they currently live in.
When Olivia’s family is accused of stealing one of the most precious Old World artifacts from the Museum in their town—which is one of the worst things you could do—Olivia flees town, not wanting to face death. She leaves her mother and step-father and younger sister behind, but not before promising them she’d always keep running and trying to survive.
The post-apocalyptic world she lives in is more dangerous than the one we live in today; you never know who might be lurking around in dark abandoned alleys, nor do you know when you could be pillaged, raped, robbed, and/or killed. After all, every man for himself, right?
When she meets a lone wandering stranger, Ryan, Olivia is immediately weary of him—she is on the run, after all. But when Ryan saves her from the people she’s running from after they catch up with her, she realizes she can trust Ryan.
