GENEVIEVE HADLEY, as a teenager, was constantly trying to grasp her parents' attention by getting into trouble and wrecking havoc. Never did she imagine that such trouble would lead to her getting pregnant at sixteen, but that's her story. Naturally, it disappointed her high-class parents so their solution to fixing "the problem" was to ship their only daughter off to Los Angeles to live with her Aunt Sue and her husband, Don. Nine months later, her daughter was born, and Genevieve had never felt such love in all of her life. The baby girl she named after herself reminded her that she was never the problem, that her parents were the ones that hurt her, and she promised to be the best mother to her daughter. Now she and her daughter are ten years older, living happily in Los Angeles, and after years of struggle, Genevieve finally has a stable job, working as a 9-1-1 dispatcher under her aunt. To this day, she has never named the man whose eyes her daughter now reflects, only informing everyone that he was just some careless hookup from her class. She never named him solely because she didn't imagine she'd ever face him again, not when she was shipped days after discovering she was pregnant. But then, after a minor fire at Evie's school, she's greeted by a firefighter who she remembers as the boy that always called her by her surname. What's worse, he recognises her immediately as the girl who disappeared from his life ten years ago. jackson nash had always been rebellious. as a seven year old he would sneak ice cream from the freezer and his mother would catch him hearing the clatter from jackson climbing onto the counter top. she'd frown and he would pout. she always let him eat it before sending him back to bed. the behaviour only got worst as he grew into a teenager, finding a group that would encourage the behaviour and got him into bad situations. then he turned 19 and for his birthday he spent the night out with his friends drinking and partying before finally arriving home around 3 am, where he stood outside the burning building of his home. his father was fighting to get in. yelling at the firefighters keeping him back. yelling that they were still in there. then jackson knew. his family had died, his father had killed them. that was enough to sober him up. he never spoke to his father after that. never approached him. that week he applied to the academy to become a fire fighter. it wasnt because his father was a fire fighter. it was because he wished he was able to save his family.
