Cubah returns from London to Kingston in the summer of 1988. She meets an ancestor who takes her on a spiritual journey back to Ghana in 1690. The story is written in three main parts which focuses on a journey from Ghana to Jamaica and from Jamaica to the House of Commons, in Westminster, London. She experiences the loves, wars, treaties and many a controversy between the maroons and planters on the island at the time. The story is a meandering tale set in her home town. Cubah meets the overseer and we see her empathise with him as he struggles with his life on the Vineyard. It is a story that celebrates the island of Jamaica in its 50th Anniversary and as well as all the recent olympic successes of Usain Bolt, it is a reminder of great Jamaicans and humble beginnings like Bob Marley and others.
