    - If you get us killed, Hurley, I will personally haunt you for the rest of your miserable afterlife. - Sweetheart, if we get killed, I'll be too busy buying you a drink in hell to care. Florence Thorne is a New York academic in the year of 1933, who is far more comfortable sorting dusty museum archives than dodging jungle traps. But when her obsessive scientist father vanishes into the uncharted depths of the Congo, Flora has no choice but to swap her ink-stained pens for a pair of field boots. Her rescue mission goes disastrously wrong when she is left stranded in the green wilderness. Lost, desperate, and definitely not dressed for a trek, she bumps into Jack Hurley (for her luck... Or not). Jack is a rugged, charismatic, and entirely reckless Australian outfitter with a smirk that should be classified as a hazard. He is broke, incredibly charming, and hunting down the exact same ancient, glowing relic her father is. She thinks he's a crude, reckless brute who doesn't take a single thing seriously while he thinks she's a rigid, rule-following little scholar who won't survive a week in his shoes. To survive the wilderness, criminals, saboteurs and the secrets of a hidden waterfall, this unlikely duo must work together. Can a sharp-witted nerdy girl and a reckless Aussie survive the jungle... And each other? ✨ PEEK ✨ ✦ 1930s Pulp Adventure Vibes ✦ Opposites Attract / Nerdy Girl x Reckless Guy ✦ Strong, Charismatic Australian Guy (With plenty of dry Aussie humor) ✦ Enemies-to-Lovers & Slow Burn Romance (not that slow tho ;)) ✦ Forced Proximity (Only one tree-canopy bed!) ✦ Moral Gray Villains & Dangerous Ancient Mysteries

Briarsville remained a fairly calm, uneventful suburb. The worst that had ever happened was an unfortunate moonshine incident in which some people may or may not have ended up with permanent visual impairments. That is, until a nearly ninety-year-old named Mrs. Tanner is found in her stairwell. And then the local shop owner's wife, Mrs.Harper. Now things aren't quite adding up, which is why the assistance of psychoanalyst Doctor Lance Clairmont, not quite a mind reader but close enough, is imperative. "Jane Harper," I simply stated. That name immediately drew his attention back to me. "Yes, what about her?" I could not help but bristle at his impossibly calm demeanor. The man had nearly toppled over yesterday when he had arrived at the bakery. Why was he so composed today? "If memory serves me correctly, and it has not failed me yet, just last night you ran to me requesting assistance with a case about Mrs Tanner," I noted the way Officer Dowry's shoulders dropped, and his eyes cast down like a sad puppy. "However, I heard Chief Fielding last night on the radio, and he mentioned a certain Jane Harper."

D.C. in 1931 is lopsided. As the rich get richer, the poor barely manage to survive. Living on the streets with no family and barely enough change to buy her next meal, Alice Winters has taken to picking the pockets of the wealthy in order to restore some balance. When she picks the pocket of Charles Cartwright, the affluent son of a well known senator and his socialite wife, she believes she found the perfect target for a bigger score. Charlie is an artist, confined to work in the privacy of his bedroom. Art, as his parents have said, is no way to make a living. But after a chance encounter with a beautiful thief on a street corner, he’s even more drawn to his canvas. The artist claims the thief as his muse and the lines that separate the two smudge. Perhaps, there is something more valuable than wealth. Canvas - noun. A piece of cloth prepared for use as the surface for an oil painting; “The only color on the whole canvas was a small red circle.” - verb. To consider a subject in great detail in order to discover essential features or meaning; “She circled the block, canvassing the building to find the perfect opportunity to slip between the cracks of the crowd.”

My chest, always my bloody chest. It was so flat. Why couldn't it be curved? I hated it. It made me feel so uncomfortable. I really was tired of it. It was always the same, when I looked into the mirror. But was it normal to feel that way for man? I am writing this to show how it feels to be born in the wrong body. It truly is a terrible feeling. I had help of one my friends, Cedric, he is transgender (ftm), like me. He helped me with names too. And another friend, Sabine, corrected it after I wrote it. So yeah, thanks a lot.

Ryland Strich has gone through life as a seemingly normal boy. He was normal, of course, but the events that will befall Ryland in this novel are most definitely not normal. He's lived all his life in Greensborough, Louisiana, and has yet to hear about the supposed mental retaining facility for young people that burned down way back in 1924. Going back to when he was eight, he explored Brentwood Hill. At least, he thought it was a hill, before he fell down under the weak foundation of Brentwood Academy's old, buried structure. Surprisingly, everything is pretty much intact. Strange though, for being in a fire. Ryland suspects there's more to this story than meets the public's eye. If only he could spread the word, but he'll have to climb out first. No biggie, he thinks, until he hears voices coming from the old phonograph in the sitting room. That's where it all went downhill.

Anna was born and raised in England and spent most her young teenage life wanting to travel. When she finally did, she met a German mathematician, in which she married 2 years later and moved in with him. This was with some speculation due to the controversial nationalities with the past war. Yet, they ordinarily continued their married life happily. Once world war two broke out, things seemed different to Anna. She had concerns for her family who still remained in England, and as much as she tried the war did cause some separation between her husband and herself. Anna is given a spontaneously, daring offer - to become a German spy. This would enable her to wall free on her home land, to return to her family. Yet, it was a lot more complicated than she had anticipated. She meets new faces, and makes new relations - ones that could even threaten her marriage. Where do Anna's loyalties lie within such a divisive war?
