Rosa, Amari, Colin, Sammi, and Tommy are normal 10th grade kids. Ghosts appear and shut down their school, they will do anything to prevent them from taking over their town. When a friendly ghost, Elizabeth, gives them a hint, the Game of the Keys has begun.

Well, trust me, the web of lies and horrors that made up the town of Echo Falls is nothing like any of it. It's a true horror story, a mystery that contained secrets buried so perfectly that no one should've been able to recover them. But here we are. One body, a Jane Doe that randomly appeared, set us off, digging us into a hole we could never come out of. The reputation of the town and the people of Echo Falls was forever dirtied, and the place will never be the same again. It all started with a body. And now, it's spiraling out of control.

Violet Thyme, Sunny O'Claire, and Jade Albright attend Oakville Academy, a school that is divided between lights and darks. This isn't based on skin color, hair color, or any physical feature. This is based on how they reacted to a test a long time ago. But when the new girl, Shadow Hayes, shows up, the three girls begin to suspect that she isn't a normal girl. Rebellious darks start attending the light's classes, and the school's sides begin fighting. Violet and her friends must figure out why the school was divided and how to stop the fight from happening, before it turns into a full out war.
