Book 2
The war is over, the world is healing, and Mira has lost the one thing that once defined her: her bending.
Seven years after the fall of the Fire Nation's old regime, Mira has rebuilt herself from the ashes. No longer a fighter who commanded flames, she has become something just as powerful - the trusted royal advisor to Fire Lord Zuko. She pushes her body beyond its limits, burying the pain of what she lost beneath discipline, duty, and carefully controlled emotions.
But when Zuko takes the throne and returns to the familiar comfort of his old relationship with Mai, Mira does the one thing she knows how to do: she walks away. She builds walls higher than any fortress, refusing to acknowledge the feelings that have followed them since the days of exile - when she was the only person who stood beside him when he had nothing.
Even after Zuko and Mai's relationship falls apart, Mira refuses to let him back in. Torn between her role as his advisor and the memories of the boy she once travelled beside, she struggles to separate the Fire Lord from the friend - the person she knew before the crown, before the expectations, before the world demanded he become someone else.
Meanwhile, Zuko is left confronting the one truth he tried too hard to ignore: the person who knew him best was never the one standing beside him at the palace. It was the girl who followed him into exile, challenged him, fought for him, and believed in him before anyone else did.
Now, after seven years of distance, duty, and unspoken feelings, Mira and Zuko must decide whether the bond forged in their darkest days is strong enough to survive the weight of the crown.
