At 16, Lily Miller is about to set out on the most important journey of her life, unbeknownst to her. The struggle of life and death, and daily survival will become the corner stone of her existence unless she can make it home. Her inseparables best friend Pete follows her into unknown territory. Through valleys and along hidden lakes their relationship only grows closer, and lines start to blur. The stress of survival strains their relationship, while simultaneously bringing them closer than ever. In order to escape the crags deep within the rocky mountain foothills, she and Pete will need to synchronize themselves long enough to harness the perilous balance of nature. Her whole life and generational ranch depends on whether or not she can recover all of their wayward cattle. A certain amount of luck, and an incredible amount of skill, will be required to escape with her future intact. Throughout her journey she will come to realize that a way out isn't always just a path. What starts as an act of kindness, quickly turns into her only hope. To escape, she must gentle the unbridled, ferocious dun stallion. After a stroke of misfortune, she's left with no other way to cross the barren waste lands fast enough to stay alive. Her only chance to return home before it's too late lies with him. He is the essence of the wild himself, as beautiful and loving as he is cruel and unforgiving. Lilly will have to change her perspective to win his loyalty. She will need to learn how to adapt faster than she ever has before.

The piano keys were smooth, each one pressing down lightly as the music escaped the instrument. My fingers flew over the keys, instinctively knowing which keys to press. The piano was my counterpart, my partner to a dance that whirled around my head and poured out from my fingertips. At least, that's how it used to be. Now I felt stiff, disjointed from the piano that sat in the middle of the stage. I wasn't one with the piano, it was a completely different, inanimate object. I couldn't even understand how it once felt alive to me. I press the last key, completely unsatisfied with the standing ovation I was receiving for the song. I stand and bow, leaving the stage. I glimpsed one of the posters the had been advertising my concert. Black letters spelling out "The Prodigy" filled my vision. That word followed me everywhere, a cage I was unable to escape the moment I touched a piano. Prodigy.

Within this book you will find a collection of poems about love and life. All of the poems will have the same structure, a structure that, personally, I find satisfying. I hope other people will too. Each poem contains 12 lines. The even-numbered lines all rhyme with each other (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12). Lines 2, 8, and 12 must end with the same word. I don't know if it's just a personality quirk of mine, but I enjoy the repetition. It has a certain rhythm to it. So the poems look like this: A B* C B D B E B* F B G B* All of the Bs rhyme, but the lines with B* end in the same or very similar word. This book contains plenty of examples if you are interested in learning more about the structure. Either way, I hope you enjoy what you read.
