Avatar Rela is an air nomad but has been in the spirit world for five years, leaving her world in the hands of the current world leaders. Rela has help to catch two benders that are causing chaos in the spirit world. Two benders, water (turrok) and fire (zaran), escaped to another world. In this other world she is able to communicate with the giant wolf spirit (Lue), the rest of spirit world, and her past avatars. Rela can go into the avatar state and use all her bending in the other world.
