what if the events of Anastasia took place 100 years later? A modern AU blending both the 1997 movie, and the real events of the revolution of 1917/1918.

The Mikaelson family visited Russia a year prior to the Fall of the Romanovs. They were warmly welcomed in St. Petersburg and quickly became close friends to the Czar and his family. They especially took a liking to the youngest Romanov daughter, the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov. After the deaths of the Imperial Family, the Mikaelsons fled Russia when they caught word of their father drawing nearer to St. Petersburg. They mourned. However, over 90 years later when they set foot in the city of New Orleans, the empire they built from the ground up, they are shocked not only by the vampire Marcel, who they assumed to be dead, to be up and kicking running the city that once belonged to them but there was one other they did not expect to see. Unknown to many of the creatures of the night who roam the streets there is one other person who rules by Marcel's side. Someone who has seen first hand what to do and what not to do when it comes to ruling. Someone who should have died many years in a cell with her family. The rumors had been true, Anastasia Romanov had indeed survived the violent assassination of her family, just not in the way people had expected, and she living the life and partying it up in the streets of the French Quarter. Jealousy ensues, Betrayal breaks out amongst allies, old love is rekindled and the Grand Duchess wonders just how long it'll be until everything goes to hell; something that she was used to. After all, she is the Last Romanov. Anya met Dmitri at the bridge, she caught him before he left. But an uncalled for disaster messes up all of the problems they had just solved. (Aka I reworked the final scene and once that's solved it's just a bunch of adorable Dimya fluff)

Dancing bears, painted wings, things I almost remember and a song someone sings, once upon a December. It's 1906 in St.Petersburg, the world is alive and the Grand Duchess is only 5, a shared look between her grandmother, a knowing smile, a cry of longing and a music box, their little secret. She's leaving for Paris without Anastasia. It's 1917, Anastasia is 16, adored by everyone, the youngest of the Tsar's daughters and she is the picture of beauty. That is until the Bolsheviks attack the palace and the royals are taken to Ipatiev house in Yekaterinburg. They are never seen again. It's 1918, the Romanov family are woken during the night and told to dress, they are being moved to a safer location. They walk down to the cellar of the Ipatiev house, awaiting the arrival of their transport. It never came. They were executed right there in the cellar, no Romanov was left alive. It's 1927, and there's a rumour in St. Petersburg. Although the Tsar did not survive, one daughter may be still alive, the Princess Anastasia, but please do not repeat. This is the companion novel to the 2017 Broadway musical, giving insights to the story, and telling a much darker, historical twist to the enchanting tale.
