Cordelia vane just moved to Avonlea. Cordelia is the shadow to Anne Shirley's sun. While Anne arrived in Avonlea with a suitcase full of big words and even bigger dreams, Cordelia arrives with nothing but a heavy silence and a guarded heart. Cordelia didn't grow up in an asylum; she grew up on the docks of Halifax. Her father was a disgraced sailor who taught her how to read the stars before he vanished at sea, leaving her to fend for herself in a world that has no place for a girl alone. She has learned that "hope" is a dangerous thing. She is practical, sharp-tongued when she does speak, and deeply suspicious of the "kindness" of the people in Avonlea. She is sent to Avonlea to work as a scullery maid for a family that is much less welcoming than the Cuthberts. What will happen when she meets Gilbert Blythe?
