It is late 1860. Abraham Ernest Levitan, a secluded farmer, needs help tending to the extensive land he owns. Agatha Eve Irvine, an otiose young girl is sent to find a job as a cure for her discourteous ways. She arrives at the Lonehaven Ranch when the only available job flies into her face while walking down a street in Yellowville, Kentucky. The girl takes on this labor with no other option, not knowing what to expect and with little eagerness to get her hands dirty by working the ways of the country. What she certainly does not expect is for the landowner to be a black man. //Story idea under construction. Everything is subject to change. Idea: May 8 2022. Do not copy! Jack: Book 2 is a rollicking high-seas adventure. Schoolmaster Jerome Whittemore - a former 'preacher' on slave ships - quits teaching after a devastating classroom humiliation at the hands of Jack and Jeremy, two fun-loving, non-conforming students. Whittemore quits teaching and returns to his former ship - the Helena - on what may be a suicide mission. Ignorant of Whittemore's plan to incite rebellion with his newfound abolitionist teachings - Jack and Jeremy sign to the same ship. Jack and his teacher had hated one another but their antagonistic relationship changes after Jack is finally triumphant in book one. Jack decides to follow him to sea while recruiting his reluctant best friend, Jeremy, who invariably is skeptical of Jack's adventure plans. Both develop a new respect for Whittemore and sign for the same sea voyage - unaware that the Helena is a 'devil slave ship'. Whittemore is appalled to see them on deck that first night after the ship is beyond the northern-flowing Gulf Stream. The self-proclaimed 'preacher of the deep' for 'the Church of the Holy Waters', Whittemore intends to incite rebellion in his first sermon since glorifying the southern white plantation slavery system on the same ship three years past. Jeremy and Jack beg him to scuttle his 'crazy' plan but to no avail. Book 2 opens with master's diatribe against the slave trade and Captain Pendleton and his enablers - the crew of the Helena. Intrigue, espionage, conspiracies, mutiny and hurricane plague the ship's voyage during its several-month cruise through the Caribbean Sea to Jamaica, Cuba and Hispaniola and elsewhere. In Jamaica, Jack and Jeremy meet two free blacks - America and Mauricia - and together they conspire to free 110 African slaves who will board the Helena in Cuba. Jack, Book 2, was published in May, 2016. Please write a brief review. See the last page where you will find instructions. Thanks. - G. L. Dorion.

1864 Not all southern white people are wealthy plantation owners but that's the one's we always read about and hear about. No, some of us were small farmers with little to our names and even though we were poor we still had one thing that made us superior, the color of our skin. It made us acceptable no matter how ignorant or poor. I was raised 2 miles away from Magnolia plantation, what a marvelous place. I use to love walking over to it with my mama as a small girl. As I became of age I started working there. I couldn't find my place, I had no place I was not wealthy nor accepted by the higher society whites, but I was to high to associate with the slaves. I was truly alone as I spent my days. I found my place, or so I thought for only a brief moment in time, living in that moment it felt as if it may never end. A fork came into my path of life, a choice I failed in making. Now looking back it was only a swift memory that haunts me. What I found was something that was not to ever be, the memory reminds me of the smell of daisies. I fell for someone I would never be allowed to be with, as someone fell for me that I had to choose in the end. I am going to tell the forbidden story of an untouched subject in the south, the record of this story were scattered and details lost along the years but inside the heart the story doesn't end. Even when I learned there was no gray line between black and white and no such thing as only one love. SMUDGES

Upon arriving at Crescent Well in Hunting Island, SC, Mayline is thrust into a new light. She meets Thomas, an arrogant and confident young man, who lost the estate to her father. At first, he seems too piggish and prideful to be respectable, but that soon changes once he finds her inside the lighthouse located only a hundred feet away from the homestead. Together, the two learn to accept the past and look forward to a better future. This is a short story I wrote for a writing contest at my school. I really enjoyed my personal spin on the plot, and I hope you do, too! I might expand this universe in the future, as well.

Carrie Hansen spent her life caring for cardiac patients. Little did she know she would become a patient herself. After recovering from her own heart surgery, she learns she has a special talent: the ability to see and talk with the dead. Now, with her new heart failing her, she leaves the bustle of Seattle behind and returns to Lexington, Missouri, the small town where she spent her childhood. Here, she sets out to restore an abandoned antebellum mansion and open it as a venue for celebrations. Carrie's work is cut out for her. The 150-year-old Greek revival house is in need of serious repair. Her sister, Melanie, tries to bully Carrie into returning to Seattle, predicting "her little project" is doomed to fail. Finally, Carrie's health gives out on her, requiring emergency surgery. But she will not give up. Carrie's unique gift allows her to build relationships with the mansion's ghostly occupants, especially Maj. Tom Gentry, the handsome Civil War soldier who died 100 years before Carrie was born. Will Carrie finish restoring the celebration house or will it finish her? And how can she plan a future with a man who has only a past?

Melanie Hansen loved her younger sister, Carrie. But when Carrie moved to Lexington, Missouri, to restore an antebellum house and open it as an event venue, Melanie was pretty sure Baby Sister had lost her mind. And then Melanie's worst fear came true: Carrie died. Melanie ignored her broken heart for as long as she could, but when a letter arrives asking her to return to Stratton House - Carrie's house - Melanie has no choice but to leave all that she knows in Seattle and travel to Missouri. All Melanie wants to do is find a buyer for Stratton House and return to Seattle. But finding a buyer isn't easy with all of the restrictions her sister and the grumpy local historian, Zach Oakes, put on the sale of the house. Plus, local residents are convinced the place is haunted so offers are few and far between. Those that are made would destroy all of Carrie's restorations. Melanie cannot allow that. Homesick and drowning in grief, Melanie finds Zach's shoulders just right for leaning on. Then a business trip to Washington, D.C. leads to a whole lot more than leaning. Whoever said historians are dull sure hasn't spent time with Zach. But when tragedy strikes, Melanie must ask: is Celebration House her home?
