They didn't tell anyone because they didn't know how any one would feel about it. Jackson told his mom and so did Noah. They hung out together and others started noticing. They would go to the movies and out to concerts etc. A group of "popular" kids approached then. They told them that it is weird to be a couple. People started bulling them and the two felt bad about it. They decided to go to the counselor and talk to the counselor about it. She gave them so advice to handle the problem.
