He hears that she stays late into the night, often leaving right before the restaurant closes. He didn't pry much until he met her himself. And now, he's stuck constantly thinking about her.

A small breath escaped me, almost a laugh. "Every time you look at me..." I searched his emerald eyes, trying to find the answer he might refuse to give me. "With the look you have in your eyes right now... you snap afterwards. You push me away. Why is that?" His gaze moved slowly across my face. My eyes. My cheek. My jaw. Then my lips.
