Aru Stories

Under the guise of a simple messenger, Kane - formerly Aru - once more finds himself taking up his spirit name, as he returns once more to the world he could only dream of for two straight years. But though his return sparks excitement within him, that isn't to say his home-world has been devoid of interests. The world of magic now open to him, Kane finds himself enthralled by every facet of knowledge, every oddity, and every person he finds along the way; and so it came as quite the shock when Kane found that even his own close family had magical roots, a fact he only overcame with much difficulty. But nevertheless, he soon finds himself struggling to find his place in the world, both worlds in fact. His life on earth soon takes a backseat however, as in a moment of disaster, Kane quickly finds himself washed up on the beaches of yet another unfamiliar land; all in a bid to retrieve his lost friend, he must now traverse these foreign lands, both for his and his dear friends sake. They will soon discover that nothing is as it seems however, as much like the land they had rescued, so too is the land here ridden with a rot spirits such as themselves were born to fight. Kane will discover many things on his journey, the intricacies of spirits; the complexity of the world around them; the awe inspiring scenery they find themselves surrounded by; but most importantly, they will discover what the one familiar face at their side truly means to them, through tragedy or otherwise. But as night falls, Aru will realise something. If it starts with a storm. So too will it end with one.

Aru Shah isn't a normal high schooler. Sure, she dreads homework. Yeah, she has a complicated love life (and by complicated, I mean messed up af). And yet, she doesn't fit in. The world is not as it should be. What most would call the sky does not exist here. There is no sun, no stars, no endless blue stretching above. Instead, there is the CeilingA-a vast, impenetrable expanse that seals the world shut. It is not a sky, but a boundary. Not something to look up at, but something that presses down. Above it lies **Realme**. To those below, Realme is not a distant land or a place across oceans-it is directly overhead. What the people of the Below stand on, Realme stands above. What should have been the sky is, in truth, their ground. The two worlds exist layered upon each other, separated by the Ceiling, like an eye forced shut for so long it has forgotten how to open. The Below lives in permanent darkness beneath this divide. Time blurs without light, survival replaces living, and everything left behind by Realme decays into rust and ruin. It is a place of remnants-of broken structures, forgotten people, and lives that were never meant to be abandoned. Realme, however, is something else entirely. It is power. Control. Light that does not reach where it is needed most. Ruled by the Archon, it is said to be the place where the sky was taken-where light, hope, and even people themselves are stolen from the Below and never returned. The Ceiling remains closed, unmoving, as if the world itself has decided the two should never meet again. But not everyone accepts that fate. Because somewhere beneath the darkness, in a world that has been sealed away for nearly a billion years, a plan is forming- -to break the Ceiling, -to reach Realme, -and to take the sky back.

Sometimes it's hard, you know? It's hard being expected to know every single thing in the future. I can't make a vision come- they just do. And half the time, they have no content. So as time passes, I become torn apart with thousands and thousands of random futures. Having my ability is utter torture. And on top of that, no one loves me. Except for one person.
