"Be my girlfriend for one month."
He said it so casually, as if he were ordering coffee, not making a deal that could turn my entire life upside down.
I looked at him.straight, cold, without blinking.
"Excuse me?"
Folding the sleeves of his black shirt, he stepped closer. That irritating confidence was still there on his face, the same thing that had made me hate him from the very first day.
"You heard me," he said slowly. "One month. That's it. Act like you're mine."
"Do I look crazy to you?"
"Not crazy," his gaze stayed fixed on my face, "desperate."
My hands clenched on their own. "I would never even pretend to be your girlfriend."
He let out a soft laugh. That laugh... so arrogant that it made me want to scratch his face off.
"Pretend?" he repeated. "You think I'm asking you?"
Anger flashed straight into my eyes. "So what? Are you threatening me?"
"Depends." He slid a file across the table. "Your brother's scholarship can either be canceled... or saved."
My breath stopped for a second.
I picked up the file immediately. My brother's name. College letterhead. Pending dues. Suspension notice.
"You..." my voice barely worked, "you can stoop this low?"
"I don't stoop," he said, looking right into my eyes. "And I don't bend either."
The cold air in the room suddenly felt heavy. My fingers tightened around the edges of the file. At that moment, I understood only two things.
one, I hated him.
two, he knew that.
"Why me?" I asked with difficulty.
He stepped even closer. Now he was so near that the scent of his perfume slipped into my breath.
"Because," he leaned down and whispered near my ear, "you're the only girl who can't stand me."
I shoved him away hard. "I hate you."
Without moving, he simply looked at me... then gave me that dangerous half-smile.
"Good," he said. "It would've been a problem if you loved me."
That night, I understood.
he wasn't just arrogant.
He was destruction.
And the worst part?
My downfall was about to begin with a deal from him.
