Serena and Brinley are two of the five at risk teenage campers who travelled to the Badlands, South Dakota for a quick getaway with a counseling group three days before Christmas 2009. The worst snowstorm the Midwest has seen in years forces the group into a cave with limited supply of food and water. Three days go by and they are still trapped. As the park closes early on Christmas Eve, counselor Chelsea Sanders goes out seeking help and never returns. Christmas morning, Serena convinces fellow campmate Brinley to go searching for their counselor. Trekking through yards of ice, sleet, and snow, Serena realizes this Christmas might not bring its Christmas miracle that her heart longed for. This mystery story will send ripples through your spine and make you feel as though you are standing in the frozen Badlands along with the characters. Will the girls find Chelsea? Or will they find something else? Read this short story: "A Badlands Christmas" by Constantina Pappas and find out.

"The feeling of isolation is enough to keep me company." •The First Book of the Eyeseffendee Series• In the Sonoran desert, being alone is a death sentence. Good thing Astor, a young coyote, is part of the Piedra tribe, where he always has shelter, food and water. Too bad he's never fit in. He was found as a sick, dehydrated pup on the edge of the Piedra territory. His bright green eyes and golden pelt set him apart as an outsider; an unwanted runt from another tribe. Things are bad enough without the other coyotes teasing him. The neighboring Fuego tribe has been crossing borders, and they are demanding more territory. When hostilities between the tribes are high, Astor witnesses something terrible: the Piedra tribe's leader is murdered by a shape shifter. The Shifter disguises himself as the chief and exiles Astor from the tribe. Astor is the tribe's only chance. But can he save the tribe that treated him as an outsider? <---•••---> The inspiration for this book came when I was driving through Colorado desert on interstate 70, looking out the window. I couldn't help but wonder, "what's out there?" Eyeseffendee answers that question one way, through the eyes of a young, angsty coyote, but I don't know what's out there. There could be wendigos, shape shifters, spirits and other creatures, or there could just be sand and sage brush. Either way, keep exploring and stay adventurous🏜

Johnny Graycoat in this story is based on a real Cherokee General, Stand Watie, in the Confederate Army, one of the last Confederate generals to surrender in the Confederate Army. Indians fought for both sides in the Civil War for a variety of reasons that had nothing to do with slavery. If you are overly sensitive or easily offended you may not wish to read this story. Key has found the markings C&A carved in various parts of the badlands of the Thornbrush Reservation. Key and her best friend Janet Istas try to follow the marks. Believing that it might lead to some treasure. What Key doesn't know is that someone else knows of the treasure and he is now waiting for Key to find the treasure. I sat up from where I had been laying and wiped the dust from my eyes. What lied before me was a scene of unfamiliarity; the sinking horizon reflected off of glowing desert sand and burnt my eyes. Turning to my right, a new source of light hit me. I removed my hands from in front of my eyes and there stood a neon sign that greeted me in big bold letters, Welcome to BADLANDS.
