Andrea Kade was supposed to be normal.
Then she kicked her locker on Tuesday.
Now there's a voice in her chest that feeds on lies. A demon that can snap lightbulbs and break dunk tanks when she's angry. And a woman in a red coat who wants it back - and will take Andrea's brother to get it.
The rules are simple:
One more lie, and the demon takes control.
If it leaves, it takes her brother as payment.
And the only way to keep everyone safe is to stop lying. To everyone. Forever.
Easy, right?
Except Andrea's been lying since Tuesday. To her overprotective brother Sol, who would burn the world down to save her. To her best friend Knox, who's brave and stupid and bleeds for her without asking why. And to herself, because the truth is terrifying:
She's dangerous. She's hungry. And she's starting to like the way the demon feels when it's awake.
When Red Coat comes back with backup and a knife, Andrea has to choose: lie again and lose herself, or tell the truth and lose Sol.
She chooses Knox.
He gets stabbed for it.
Now the demon's quiet, Sol's deferring college to watch her, Knox has twenty-three stitches and a hero complex, and Red Coat left a note: I'll be back when you're happy.
They made a deal: no more lies. No more secrets. No more splitting up.
Sun. Floodlight. Girl. Shadow.
A stupid, bleeding square.
And squares are stable.
For now.
