Humans live in the world of Assiah, and demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. Though there are humans who choose to fight these demons, exorcists, the majority of humanity live in ignorance, thinking demons to be that of myth. Taking advantage of this, the Demon Lord, Satan, bore a human son: a boy named Katsuki Bakugou.

Shiro Fujimoto raised Rin separate from his demon heart sealing it away in the Kurikara sword keeping him hidden from the truth of his birth. Rin had been separated from his demon heart for so long that his very own demon heart grew a consciousness of its own, a mind of its own. In an attempt to save his father after finding out about his origin and birth, he unsheathed the Kurikara sword awakening his demon heart. Soon after he attends True Cross Academy to become an exorcist in training, but he has had dreams that he wouldn't want to share.
