Jack Davis is pissed that his brother is dating a girl he hates. Caroline's been a pain in his side and a bully in his life for the past three years. She dumped him at someone's grad party and now she's with Keegan Davis, one of his teammates?! Barely a month after their breakup, she's moved on but he hasn't. He wants to make her jealous and he wants her back. When the two boys meet at a party that Keegan's throwing, they find out that they have one common goal. Get Caroline out of Keegan's life. So they charter a deal, fake date to make Caroline jealous so she dumps Keegan and comes running back for Logan. This is basically just a spinoff from my book Not So Fun House. Noctis and Gabriel went to school in wherever they were in college to be high school band directors. So when they moved in with Vanz and Leah, for about a year they had to go back to school. After they re-graduated they received a job offer from a small school who was losing money—and fast. For the school, the band is useless and with money going into it being wasted; could the brothers turn it around and bring life back to the school? THIS DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM LATER IN THE LAST BOOK. I MAY OR MAY NOT FINISH THE OTHER ONE

After becoming drum major of his high school and leading the band for almost two weeks in summer band camp, Ellis learns that due to a new job for his dad, his family has to move across the country from Georgia to California. This means a new town, a new school, and of course, a new band. The problem is, he's coming in late, and now he'll have to fit in to a new band family without the benefit of being drum major. *** These are just early developmental sketches for a new stand alone short, I'm writing in the "Just Rigby" universe. If you've read Just Rigby (aka titled Because in its published form), you know that Ellis, the main character of THIS story, plays a small, but significant, role in Rigby's journey in her novel. This is a short story about Ellis and HIS journey and takes place AFTER the events in Just Rigby (aka Because). Each part is an exploration and will eventually end up in published form, but for now, enjoy reading about Ellis and his journey into a new band family on the other side of the country.

The most cliché situation I could possibly be put in? I'd probably be at the movies completely overdressed because my parents thought I was going on a date and then Hadrien Syms shows up and professes his secret love for movies, and then we go in and watch a reshowing of the Titanic and sob our eyes out while holding each other. Of course, that's never going to happen. Why? 1) My parents don't want me to go to a school dance. They'd much rather prefer I stay home and study. "Harvard-bound students don't have a need for lame dances," they'd tell me. And then I would have to correct them that I want to go to MIT, not Harvard. They're both Berkeley graduates, and apparently they think all the Ivy Leagues are the same and overrated. And that MIT is part of the Ivy League. It's not. 2) Do I even own an article of clothing that could qualify as "overdressing"? I wear dresses all the time, but they're usually from the junior section of Kohl's or Macy's. I think I only own one dress over $100, and that's my black concert gown for band. 3) I can't speak for Hadrien, but I'm not much of a movie enthusiast. I watch some movies with my friends and family, but that's at home. Movie theaters are too expensive and the nearest one is in Gold Lake. 4) The only remotely cliché part about Hadrien is that he has a bad boy image. He doesn't even smoke or drink or womanize. All he does is remain aloof, wear a leather jacket, and have a decent body. Obviously the envy of the school. Although I shouldn't really be hating, I'm the one who's had an inexplicable crush on him since eighth grade. An entry to The Kissing Booth Movie Contest. 500 words total
