Riley, a 19-year-old lesbian lives in a liberal town called Saint Stoneridge, California. Everyone at school loves Riley and openly accepts her, except for Riley herself. Riley struggles to accept that she's attracted to girls and constantly pushes the thought away. It's not like Riley does not currently live in an accepting household. While her mother didn't really care for her beliefs or sexuality, she lived with her brothers and sisters, far away from her mother. So why was her mother's presence still haunting her and dictating her every move? There's this girl that Riley has been eyeing, Maya. Maya was a new student who got along with everyone. Riley makes up her mind that she doesn't want to live a miserable life working a 9-5 and pretending to love a husband she knew she would resent. Something needed to be done, she needed to take control of her life. And she knew the perfect way to do this: The pre-summer bucket list. This list contained activities and bold acts meant to help Riley accept herself for who she is. All she had to do was draw a random goal and set her mind to it. And of course, the first task was to become friends with Maya. As Riley and Maya start getting close and exploring their feelings while doing Riley's bucket list, Maya tells Riley something that would change everything for them.
