A Beautifully Black Black History Month Poem!

J'étais à la cantine, avec Sarah. Comme d'habitude, on discutait des cours, de ce qui se passait de plus sympa dans notre vie. Mis je sentais un regard se poser sur moi. Non pas celui de Sarah mais un autre. Je tournai la tête et je le vis. Alyssa est une fille de 15 ans, dans un grand lycée de quartier. Tout allait plutôt bien dans sa petite vie: des amis, une famille... Mais ce qui va suivre au cours de sa première année de lycée ne se passe pas comme prévu. Vous allez me dire que c'est une histoire banale, sans intérêt et bourrée de stéréotypes. Eh bien ne la lisez pas.

Life was sure simple here in Nigeria. Yeah, of course that's an untrue. What I mean is that at least following my daily routine was sure simple, apart from that, life's never easy. ---------------- What happens when Chiamaka Oyinlola Anthony a typical black Nigerian girl wins a scholarship to NY to further her studies. Making it her priority to study till she makes it, would she be able to do so when the school's bad boy has his eyes on her? #20 in Vignette (November 2020) Racism affects everyone differently, but the color of our skins don't define who we are. A vignette to show my struggle, and many others. Audre is a highschool girl who is just like everyone else. She gets good grades, has a loving African family, and has a nice home to sleep in every night. Life in America continues to get harder for Audre as the people in her school constantly bully her for the skin she has no control over. Being black was never a problem for her until highschool. She used to see a beauty in her skin, a beauty that not many people will learn to see. Every little detail of herself makes her dislike herself more and more everyday. The little comments from her peers every single say cause her to see herself differently. She lost her beauty.. Will she be able to find it again?

Lately I've noticed the whole Team Light skin vs. Team Dark skin thing is getting out of hand. I wanted to say a few things about how ridiculous I think the whole thing is. This is just my opinion it's not necessarily right, nor is it wrong. I just want all people to celebrate their beauty and for others to stop finding ways to slyly incorporate ways to discriminate into our lives. I just want anybody reading it to know they need to embrace their beauty and their looks don't define that. This is directed towards Black girls, but even if you're white,Indian,Hispanic,Korean,Chinese,or any other race (that I'm too lazy to include xD I love you thooo) I want you to know you are beautiful and amazing and you should never tell yourself or any other person differently.
