"A church that lived and died by pretty lies." In this small Southern town Josephine believes she understands the life she's been given. She is the preacher's wife, she makes the iced sweet tea and smiles when expected. As Josephine continues into motherhood, she begins to notice what the town celebrates, what it erases, and who is allowed to be forgiven. When a famous blues musician returns home, old loyalties, old sins, and the quiet certainty that nothing buried ever truly leaves drifts back into town. The truth does not arrive all at once. It seeps in slowly, like something in the water-through glances held too long and names never spoken. By the time Josephine understands the cost of what has been protected, it is too late to undo it. Some things are never meant to be poured out. They are sweetened, decorated with lemon, and called tradition.

In a near-future America where "protection" is the new face of possession, single mother Nia Marshall must make an impossible choice: surrender herself and guardianship of her children to a white suburban family-or risk losing them to the state. What begins as a temporary arrangement quickly becomes a suffocating system of control, erasure, and surveillance. Her name disappears. Her children are renamed. Her autonomy-digitally and legally-revoked. But Nia isn't alone. As her eldest son Malik builds a quiet resistance, the truth behind the "Family Asset Protection Act" begins to surface, revealing a legacy of ownership disguised as care. Months later, Nia vanishes into a black-site prison, her voice weaponized by the system and her son Malik becomes the reluctant face of a fractured uprising. As the government rewrites history in real time, the resistance uncovers a devastating truth: the clause wasn't a flaw-it was a plan. CLAIMED and its explosive sequel UNCLAIMED are a haunting saga of modern-day control, generational defiance, and the war over memory in a world where truth must be reclaimed.

This story explores the modern social and racial complexities of being black in higher education. With the illustrious predominantly white institute (PWI), Carnie University and the distinguished historically black college (HBCU) Nickelson College as their stages, this group of friends battles racial oppression, overcoming self doubt, and claiming self reliance as they search for their own meanings of black American Exceptionalism, black classism, and most importantly, Hip-Hop as our inheritance through their respective callings. Welcome to Black Excellence: this is The Call.
