In a house in a meadow, far away from most, lived a strange, happy elf named Forest Grayling. The house was a beautiful, cozy place on a vast meadow full of flowers, bees, butterflies and sunlight. The calming scent of flowers of every kind mixed in with the loving warmth of the sun was the perfect paradise for anybody who knew the place. Forest was plenty happy where he was, with his partner, the demon Willow Dream.
One day, after Willow came home, her berry basket empty, and a terrible wound on her shoulder oozing purple blood, Forest leaves his lovely abode and sets out in search of the remedy, three starry black butterflies. A quest undertaken in the company of fairies, ghosts, and suspicious beasts lurking in the shadows.
In the search for the butterflies guarded by high-class demons, Forest surprises even himself with his braveness and the extent of his gardening magic.
During his travels, Forest discovers an old bow and quiver of arrows containing identical markings as to what Willow described months ago as an heirloom belonging to her. Forest asks her to speak to her kin for advice by way of meditating but Willow refuses, damaging their bonds.
However, Willow is wounded further when a group of faan attack. Faan are a humanoid deer-like species of beasts with incredible attack power. They came to retrieve what they have protected for years- Willow's precious heirloom. They escape by hiding in a hold in a tree and wait for the faan to move on with their search. Forest and Willow assess their wounds and reconcile their bonds before Forest sat down, legs folded, and conversed with his kin.
Forest completes a challenge and accepts one of the three butterflies and returns home.
